The proliferation of digital video technology has rewritten the rules for documentary production throughout the world. Although lightweight and cost efficient compact equipment has lowered the barriers for documentary making, the local documentary scene is still struggling to find its bearings. In Hong Kong, documentary-making is considered to be non-profitable and few investors would be interested in providing funding support.
In view of the above, the Club donated HK$1.43 million in support of the "Hong Kong to the World" project. The project is jointly organised by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and National Geographic Channel International. It aims to groom budding talents in the industry and to produce local documentaries. It is a rare opportunity for our local film-makers to showcase Hong Kong to the world through compelling stories, breathtaking visuals and innovative treatments.
