Education and Training

Jockey Club funds major upgrade of vocational training centre
17/12/2015

Continuous learning is essential for the city’s workforce to stay competitive in today’s  ever-changing society. To provide people from all walks of life with an improved learning environment and better-equipped facilities to pursue continuing education, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated over HK$6 million to the United Labour Chi Hong Association for the renovation of its vocational skills training centre at To Kwa Wan.

Education was an essential element in promoting sustainable development in Hong Kong. The Club hopes all trainees can acquire the latest professional knowledge in this well-equipped education centre, which will enable them to unleash their full potential in making their career choices.

The 1,200-square-metre Ying Choi Jockey Club Education Centre, which occupies the former premises of a vacant primary school, now includes a dance studio and additional recreational facilities. In addition, its beauty therapies workshop, mock-up massage room and multi-purpose hall have all been upgraded and its mock-up hotel bedroom and teaching kitchen fitted with the latest equipment.

This enhanced teaching and learning environment will allow the Centre to offer a wider variety of vocational training courses thus strengthening the competitiveness of Hong Kong’s labour force. It is expected that the number of trainees will increase gradually from the current 20,000 to about 30,000 in the next three years.
