Club promotes coding education for primary schools to enhance logical thinking among students
12/04/2016

The Club’s Charities Trust works closely with different partners to provide people with equal and high-quality learning opportunities so as to empower them to realise their full potential, whatever their aspirations and talents may be.

As a means of providing young people with skills that can improve their digital readiness and equip them to the ever-changing 21st-century world, the Trust has recently initiated the “Coding Education for Primary Schools” programme with three overseas and local universities as co-creators – The Hong Kong Institute of Education, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and City University of Hong Kong – and the Education Bureau as a supporting organisation.

The four-year programme, funded by the Trust with a donation of HK$216 million, is targeted at equipping over 16,000 upper primary students from 32 local schools with the basic coding capabilities to strengthen their logical thinking and problem solving skills. By doing so the Trust hopes to create interest and motivation among the students for further learning, as well as build the capacity of their teachers through training and evidence-based teaching materials.

The programme has received a very encouraging response, with over 370 teachers from 196 schools recently joining a school briefing session to receive more details of the programme and application process.
