Club funds heritage site illuminations to enhance art accessibility for all
22/07/2016

The Club has been a staunch supporter of Hong Kong’s arts, culture and heritage initiatives over the years. To enhance art accessibility for all, the Club’s Charities Trust is supporting the first Lumières Hong Kong light show in November as its Major Contributor.

An inspiring array of multimedia installations will be projected across nine heritage buildings in Central District on the nights of 18 to 20 November, with accompanying live performances and art installations. Various free supporting activities will help residents and visitors from all backgrounds discover more about the city and its fascinating history.

The Club is again working with the Association Culturelle France Hong Kong, its major partner in the Le French May festival, to bring this art extravaganza to Hong Kong. The Trust’s donation of over HK$10 million covers the production costs of the lighting installations and projections as well as the Jockey Club “Lumières Hong Kong” Education Outreach Programme, which is aimed at developing public interest in arts and culture.

The outreach programme will involve various youth and education organisations such as Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to cultivate the young generation’s creativity and their awareness of local heritage conservation. They will demonstrate their talents in a light parade, performance and art installation. The programme will also include interactive smartphone apps illustrating the sites’ history, and docent tours for the disadvantaged.

Some 400,000 visitors are expected to watch the spectacular three-night show while the outreach programme will benefit over 50,000 students. For more information, please visit:http://lumiereshk.com
