Jockey Club-funded brain health mobile service extended for another three years
26/07/2017

Building on the success of a brain health outreach support programme for people with dementia and their carers, the Club’s Charities Trust has granted funding of HK$8.39 million for St James’ Settlement to extend the programme – named the “Jockey Club Charles Kao Brain Health Mobile Service” – for another three years.

The mobile centre will visit all 18 districts of Hong Kong to provide initial screening of the elderly for early signs of dementia, starting with Kennedy Town, Wong Tai Sin, Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan for the month of July. The project team will partner with local NGOs and elderly centres to organise visits to the mobile centre, and hold carer training courses. In the coming three years, the extended programme is expected to benefit around 100,000 elderly people with or at a higher risk of dementia, as well as their carers and members of the public.

The Trust has always placed an emphasis on the elderly’s quality of life, and has designated elderly services as one of its strategic focus areas. Through a series of preventive support services, the Trust hopes to promote positive ageing, turning the elderly’s role from service recipients to participants.
