Second HKBCF Jockey Club Breast Health Centre opens in Kowloon
08/03/2018

With breast cancer now being one of the leading cancers among Hong Kong women, there is an urgent need to promote breast cancer screening and boost public awareness.

To this end, the Club’s Charities Trust has provided the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF) with funding of over HK$79 million to support the establishment of the HKBCF Jockey Club Breast Health Centre (Kowloon), as well as run a three-year holistic Jockey Club Breast Care for You Programme to help better meet the needs of at-risk women in Kowloon and the New Territories. The Centre was officially opened on 8 March.

The two-storey Kowloon facility is located near Ngau Chi Wan. It is the second one-stop service centre operated by the Foundation, after an earlier one also opened with support from the Jockey Club in North Point in 2011. It delivers a one-stop breast screening process comprising clinical breast examination, on-site mammography screening and ultrasound imaging services, breast cancer risk assessment and biopsy, as well as doctor consultation and referral.

The Centre will also provide patient support services, lymphoedema care and educational activities to publicise the threat of the disease and the importance of early detection.

With the Centre’s completion, a three-year Jockey Club Breast Care for You Programme for underprivileged women is also being rolled out. It comprises free screening and mammography services, patient support and breast health education, and is expected to benefit more than 36,000 people.
