Due to the pandemic situation, the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association’s (HKGDA) signature “HalloWoof Guide Dogs Online Walk 2021” continued to be a virtual fundraising event this year. CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team has supported this Online Walk for two consecutive years. To complete the event, CARE volunteers had to complete two to four kilometers of walking within the designated event period (19 November to 5 December 2021) and upload the walking records for confirmation. Apart from raising money for guide dogs, this event also aimed to enhance public awareness of guide dog services and the visually impaired community while promoting social inclusion in society.
The Online Walk received enthusiastic support from CARE Team, with over 190 volunteers signing up for the programme. Although participants could not meet each other face to face in the walkathon this year under the social distancing policy, it did not hinder CARE volunteers from showing their passion and care to the community. For volunteers who were pet owners, they enjoyed this quality walk with their dogs. For volunteers without pets, it was a meaningful opportunity for fundraising while exercising.
To thank every participant for their support, HKGDA rewarded the participants with medals and limited-edition souvenirs as finisher awards upon completion of the event. The souvenir pack including HKGDA 2022 Calendar, postcard, sticker, dog bowl, dog toy, etc., which were perfect for dog lovers.
In addition, volunteers were motivated to join three extra fun challenges with their pets, namely “Costume Contest Show”, “Doggie Got Talent” and “Doggie Outdoor Activity Challenge”, to win big prizes. HKGDA hoped that these activities could encourage pet owners to keep exercising and stay healthy with their pets, as well as sharing some lovely and heart-warming pet stories with the public.
