HKJC Chapter - Fu Hong Society "Best Buddies Hong Kong" Movement Set Up For Supporting People With Intellectual Disabilities
30/01/2017

Since early 2016, the CARE Volunteer Team has been working closely with Ngai Shing Workshop of Fu Hong Society for organising different programmes in which CARE volunteers are able to interact with intellectual disabilities (ID) people and understand more about their characteristics and needs. These activities include cookies workshops, outing to country park, visit to museums, day camp activity and barbecue. All these paved the way for the setup of the HKJC Chapter under the Fu Hong Society "Best Buddies Hong Kong" Movement.

Fu Hong Society "Best Buddies Hong Kong" Movement is a long term programme aiming to pair up volunteers with ID people for building friendship through regular visits and participation of group activities. Volunteers will be able to help their ID buddies enjoy normal social life while integrating to the society.

A ceremony was held on 5 January 2017 to celebrate the setup of the HKJC Chapter with a total of 18 pairs of ID buddies and their volunteers. Apart from the monthly visit to the ID buddies at their Aberdeen work place, the pairs will join group activities organised by the "Best Buddies Hong Kong" Movement. One of the examples is the day camp organised at Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre on Sunday 22 January 2017. Members of all chapters under the Movement are invited to join the day camp for celebrating the lunar new year. Hundreds of participant enjoyed wonderful time on the day!
