Hong Kong Trails

In recent years, hiking has become very popular in Hong Kong, which isn’t surprising, since Hong Kong is famous for its trails. One of the most well-known is the MacLehose Trail, which was named one of the “World’s Best Hikes: 20 Dream Trails” by National Geographic magazine. In addition to the four main trails (MacLehose Trail, Wilson Trail, Hong Kong Trail and Lantau Trail), Hong Kong has many popular hiking spots, such as Wong Chuk Kok Tsui and Cheung Tsui.

No matter which trail you choose, mountain climbing expert Chung Kin Man reminds you that it’s very important not to hike alone, but to go in a group of least 3-4 people. Also, it’s crucial to take seasonal climate changes into account when planning your journey. For a better hiking experience, consider these tips:

Spring: It’s hot and humid, so choose an easier trail, such as one of the Country Trails.
Summer: It’s hot, so you may consider walking along the coast and on the outlying islands.
Fall and Winter: It’s cool and dry, so go ahead and take on the Long Trails and higher hills, but pay attention to falling temperatures and keep an eye on when the sun goes down.

Easter holidays in mid-April are the perfect time for picnics and camping. Let’s listen to “Chung Sir” as he teaches us what to pay attention to when hiking in the spring and how to choose a good pair of hiking shoes.
