Tips for avoiding pesticide residue in food

We've learned how a "Healthy gut improves sub-health", so now how can we avoid accumulating toxins in our bodies?

Let's start with food, and make sure that what we're eating is nutritious and doesn't contain pesticides. Dr Chau has a few tips that can help:

  • As much as possible, buy vegetables that are in season
  • Thoroughly clean choi sum, strawberries, grapes and apples, as these may have a higher concentration of pesticides
  • Choose fruits that have relatively lower exposure to pesticides, such as bananas, mangoes, pineapples, durians and jackfruits, etc.
  • Eat less meat, as it also contains pesticides and food additives
  • Buy organic produce that is grown naturally without the use of chemicals
  • Although Hong Kong has an organic product labeling system, there are different grades, so it's best to buy from a reputable vendor or farm.

Pesticides in our food are hard to wash away completely. In the video, Dr Chau will explain some ways that we can try to do so. In addition, he reminds us that if our excretory system - including our skin, bladder, and other organs – is working fine, then toxins will wreak less havoc on our bodies. So we should really live a healthy lifestyle, instead of relying on products to remove toxins.
