Tea appreciation in Hong Kong

Tea appreciation in Hong Kong has generally remained at the level of simply having it with dim sum at a tea house. Many people think that only adults get together and drink tea. Yet in recent years, more and more children have joined tea appreciation activities, and they really enjoy each step in the process. Tea appreciation not only helps cultivate a sense of order and etiquette, but also strengthens the power of the senses and concentration, and gives one peace of mind.

Tea appreciation isn’t just about steeping tea leaves in a teapot; it’s about the mindful coordination of the utensils, water temperature, accessories, atmosphere, etc., and sometimes when accompanied by music, it can become an elegant part of your life. Here are some basic tools:

  • Purple clay (Zisha) teapot
  • Pythagorean cup
  • Tea cups
  • Strainer

In fact, tea appreciation can also be a great parent-child activity. If every evening after dinner children could make their parents a cup of tea, and then everyone puts away their mobile phones, turns off the TV, and chats about anything and everything, it would help to promote better communication and closeness between parents and children.

So what steps and special terms does "tea appreciation" have? Let’s take a look at Tea Art Instructor Anne's demonstration!
