Family Day is a large-scale, family-themed celebration event organised as part of the “FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society” project, a collaboration between the Club’s Charities Trust and The University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health. Its aim is to motivate Hong Kong people to spend more quality time with their family members and energise the family unit through a series of celebratory activities and special offers. These include: encouraging families to shop and dine together; providing them with free postcards on which they can express their love and gratitude to their family members, and a Fun Fair with all kinds of family-friendly performances and game booths. The FAMILY project promotes the 3Hs – health, happiness and harmony, and families of all sizes are welcome to celebrate Family Day. Mark the date!
The Jockey Club FAMILY project has set the date of its annual Family Day to be two weeks after Mother’s Day (this year, it is on 28 May). The theme of Family Day 2017 is “Sharing a Blissful Journey”, and it aims to promote the 3Hs: health, happiness and harmony.
This year, Family Day will comprise a series of citywide celebration events between April and June under three main themes: Shopping Fun, Express Your Love to the Family, and Family Day Fun Fair.
Shopping Fun is being held between April and June, and has the support of over 700 retail shops and restaurants in Hong Kong. Members of the public can enjoy a variety of special offers either through one of 50,000 free copies of the “Family Day 2017 Guidebook”, visiting the Family Day website, or the Family Day Facebook page. The event encourages families to shop and dine together, so as to increase quality time with each other and promote positive family communication.
“Express Your Love to the Family” takes the form of free “3H” postcards available at promotional vans parked at 16 locations across Hong Kong that allow people to write to family members to express their love and gratitude. The postcards will then be collected and used to try and break a Guinness World Record at the Family Day Fun Fair, after which they will be posted to the families. Also at the vans, members of the public can take part in a photo competition by taking pictures and uploading them to the Family Day Facebook page (in Chinese only) along with a special message to their families. The person whose photo gets the most “likes” will win a great prize!
At the Family Day Fun Fair on 28 May at D·PARK in Tsuen Wan there will be lots of large-scale celebratory activities held, including the attempt to break a Guinness World Record using postcards filled with 3H messages; on-stage performances; the chance to experience Zero Time Exercise; lots of game stalls, and so much more. There will be lots of different family-friendly activities suitable for all ages. Come along and spend a healthy, happy and harmonious day with your family!
