Green Monday Jockey Club “Green It Yourself (GIY)” Programme is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and is the first comprehensive community programme to promote vegetarianism and green living in Hong Kong. The programme has launched a new vegetarian cookbook and “Green Taste of Hong Kong” cooking competition this year. Through a variety of different activities, it encourages the public to adopt vegetarian habits and enhances environmental awareness so that they may “Green It Yourself” at home. This year’s cooking competition is now open for registration, so be sure to take part! Mark the dates!
The theme of this year’s competition is “Green Taste of Hong Kong”. Participants are required to submit a recipe that is uniquely Hong Kong and can be made within 30 minutes. The aim is to recreate the colour, aroma and taste of authentic classic dishes and in doing so give the public an unexpected surprise.
The organiser will select the dishes of 12 participants, after which the public will vote online to choose the 8 who will enter the cooking competition. The final four contestants will take part in the final round in early November. This year’s competition not only inspires the public’s creativity in cooking vegetarian dishes, but the first through fourth prize winners will also win stylish kitchen utensils.
The Green Monday Jockey Club “Green It Yourself” Programme began last April. In addition to the cooking competition, the programme also shares “how-to” cooking videos on its online platform and social media networking sites. The programme further extends its reach into the community by organising cooking classes, vegetarian seminars and green living outreach activities, among others. Remember to keep a close eye on all kinds of healthy cooking information offered by the Green Monday Jockey Club “Green It Yourself” Programme!
