Young people are the future of our city, and to provide more opportunities for them to connect, share and grow The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is pleased to support this year’s Hong Kong Youth Festival (youthfest@HK) with an approved donation of HK$10 million. The festival, organised by The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, features a wide range of activities, performances and competitions designed to bring young people together and to inspire them for a hopeful future.
A key highlight is the inaugural Youth Development Summit, bringing together youth groups from Hong Kong, the Mainland, ASEAN and overseas with the aim of promoting mutual learning and inspiring a global vision for youth.
With the theme “Set Sail for New Horizons”, the Summit was the feature event of the opening day of the 2024 Youth Festival, held today (10 August) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Over 1,000 young people were in attendance.
The opening session was officiated by John Lee, HKSAR Government Chief Executive; Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration; Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs; Ann Kung, Steward of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, and other guests.
Speakers and panellists included officials responsible for youth policy, representatives from the aviation, technology, healthcare, and finance industries, as well as young entrepreneurs, representatives of youth organisations, sports and charity sectors. Together they shared their personal experiences as well as discussing a range of youth development topics.
The annual youthfest@HK was launched by the HKSAR Government in 2023. This marks the second year the Trust has supported youthfest@HK, following a HK$10 million donation for the inaugural festival in 2023, which attracted approximately 200,000 young people to its 200 activities.
Youth Development & Poverty Alleviation is one of the priority areas of the Club’s charities strategy. The Club is committed to initiating and supporting projects that enable young people to achieve their full potential as active members of society. One example is CLAP@JC, which over the last nine years has helped 130,000 young people explore multiple pathways to personal and career success. Another is the Club’s support for the HKSAR Government’s Strive and Rise Programme, which aims to help young people from underprivileged backgrounds broaden their horizons, reinforce their self-confidence and set goals for the future.
The Club’s support for youthfest@HK, like all its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for the community.
