Jockey Club joins hands with various sectors to celebrate Family Day 2017
10/05/2017

Family Day 2017, a series of family-oriented events being held at various locations across the city under the theme “Sharing a Blissful Journey”, will reach its climax with a Family Fun Fair in Tsuen Wan on Sunday 28 May, two weeks after Mothers’ Day.

The initiative is being organised as part of the “FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society” project, a collaboration between the Club’s Charities Trust and The University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health, and follows the staging of a successful first Family Day last year. Its aim is to motivate Hong Kong people to spend more quality time with their family members.

To learn more about how Hong Kong people plan to celebrate Family Day, the FAMILY Project team recently conducted a citywide study – the “Hong Kong Family and Health Information Trends Survey”.

Over 2,000 citizens were interviewed, of whom about 30% said they would celebrate Family Day with their own family. The most favoured activities for celebrating Family Day were dining or eating together, with over 90% of respondents indicating they would dine or eat with their family, and over 80% choosing an outside venue rather than their home. The survey also found that having dinner with the family could generate a positive impact on family communication time and quality, as well as on FAMILY Health, Happiness and Harmony (the 3Hs).

Family Day 2017 will comprise a series of citywide celebration events extending from April and June in partnership with the business, academic, social service and health sectors:

  • “Family Day – Shopping Fun”
  • To encourage families to shop or dine together, so as to increase quality time with each other and promote positive family communication, over 700 retail shops and restaurants are partnering the FAMILY Project to provide special offers for Family Day 2017. Citizens can enjoy the offers through 50,000 free copies of the Family Day 2017 Guidebook distributed via magazine inserts and roadshows across Hong Kong, or from the Family Day website and Family Day Facebook page.

  • “Family Day – Express Your Love to the Family”
  • Free ‘3Hs’ postcards are being provided and collected at promotion vans parked at 16 locations across Hong Kong between 29 April and 21 May, to encourage citizens to write to family members expressing their love and gratitude. The 3Hs postcards collected will be used to try to break a Guinness World Record at the Family Day Fun Fair.

  • Family Day Fun Fair
  • A Family Day Fun Fair will be held on Sunday 28 May at D·PARK in Tsuen Wan. It will be a large-scale celebration event with various family activities suitable for all ages. The day’s highlight will be an attempt to break a Guinness World Record with the citizens of Hong Kong, using the postcards filled with 3Hs messages. Other exciting activities will include on-stage performances and game booths. Visitors will also be invited to enter a “Family Day – Express Your Love to the Family” Photo Competition, encouraging them to take more family photos together.
