Jockey Club Frailty Prevention Campaign launched to help older people avert or delay frailty
22/11/2017

As we move into older age, there is an inevitable deterioration of our physical functioning, cognitive ability, psychological health, self-care capability and intelligence - a condition collectively referred to as frailty. Although we cannot stop this organic deterioration, we can learn more about precautions to delay its emergence. In order to help Hong Kong citizens acquire knowledge of frailty prevention, the Jockey Club CADENZA Hub has joined hands with The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation and St. James' Settlement to launch a three-year Jockey Club Frailty Prevention Campaign across the city.

A survey conducted in 2014 by the Jockey Club CADENZA Hub and the CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing showed that among the population aged 65 or above, one out of eight were classified with frailty. In addition, more than half of the people aged 65 or above were considered to have "pre-frail" status that is commonly seen.

The recently-launched Jockey Club Frailty Prevention Campaign will offer such services as frailty screening and consultation, anti-frailty workshops and education talks to help older people and the soon-to-be old proactively practise healthy living for the rest of their lives. Some 9,000 people are anticipated to benefit from the campaign. Please visit http://www.jcch.org.hk/new/ for further information.
