Jockey Club helps children from underprivileged families learn music
07/07/2018

Learning music can help children build self-confidence and develop their artistic potential.

To provide more opportunities for children from underprivileged families to learn music, the Club’s Charities Trust is providing funding to the Music Children Foundation to implement the Jockey Club Music Children Seed Programme.

The three-year programme is funded by the Trust with a donation of some HK$45 million. It covers two sub-programmes:

The Jockey Club Music Children Sprout Programme targets underprivileged children aged 1 to 6, providing a foundation course and activities that enable them to further their music education in both singing and instrument learning, such as music playgroups, music appreciation activities and family counselling.

The Jockey Club Music Children Fruit Programme targets underprivileged children aged 6 to 12 and provides courses and activities that combine theory, practice and performance, including instrument and music knowledge classes, music appreciation workshops, ensemble training, public performances, choir training, parenting support and family engagement activities.

The Trust hopes that the Jockey Club Music Children Seed Programme can establish a mutual support network through its family support services, and at the same time help improve parent-child relationships, as well as enhance family harmony.

Services will be offered in Sham Shui Po, Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon City, Hung Hom, Wong Tai Sin, Kwun Tong and Kwai Tsing, and are expected to benefit over 4,100 underprivileged children.
