20/09/2019

With the aim of supporting healthy ageing and to boost empathy and understanding across generations, the Club’s Charities Trust has collaborated with academic and community partners to launch the Jockey Club Generation Connect Project with an approved donation of over HK$38 million.

On 19 September, a ceremony and symposium was held to mark the official launch of the Project. With the theme "Connecting Generations for Health", the symposium brought together local and overseas academics and experts to share views and insights on intergenerational relations and the benefits for health and quality of life.

The Project was launched in collaboration with the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and three non-governmental organisations, namely Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association, St. James' Settlement and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

A wide range of cross-generational activities are being held to help enhance intergenerational harmony and promote healthy ageing, including "medical visit buddy", where university students provide support to the elderly through home and clinic visits; "life review", where younger family members compile life stories of their elderly family members as a way to help the elderly reconnect with their memories, while the youngsters learn from their life stories; and the "traditional culture and health" programme, which partners older and young people in craft making or culinary-themed activities to help build intergenerational communication and understanding.

Some 1,600 elderly and 2,300 young people are expected to benefit from these activities.
