Chinese festivals are traditionally a time for families to celebrate and share happiness. And yet, singleton elderly or senior couples living on their own may find it hard to feel the joy of festive seasons. Organised by Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre, CARE volunteers supported the Dragon Boat Festival Elderly Visit on 13 June 2020, in hope of sharing festive blessings to the elderly in Sham Shui Po district and caring for their living conditions through home visits.
The service drew enthusiastic response from CARE volunteers, with more than 170 volunteers registered for the activity! The event was originally divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Unfortunately, due to weather condition, visits in the afternoon had to be cancelled after the Hong Kong Observatory issued typhoon signal No.3. Some volunteers were disappointed as they missed the chance of participating in the service.
However, the unpredictable weather did not hinder CARE volunteers from serving the community. To avoid letting the elderly down, volunteers who participated in the morning session managed to complete all visits before typhoon signal No. 3 was hoisted, spreading love and care to the elderly in Sham Shui Po district.
