Volunteers from The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s CARE@hkjc team prepared 3,000 gift packs for the Hospital Authority on Saturday, 2 April to express gratitude to medical professionals who have worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The gift packs contain KN95 masks, a smartwatch that measures blood oxygen levels and traditional Chinese medicine.
Strictly adhering to stringent precautionary procedures, some 40 CARE@hkjc team members took part in last Saturday’s session. They were joined by Club Chairman Philip Chen, Club Executive Director, Corporate Affairs Raymond Tam and guest volunteer and champion Hong Kong fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai.
“This generous support from the CARE team is just one of various ways we can all contribute to the community during this difficult time. Many among us need assistance and if we all stand together and find ways to lend a helping hand we will overcome the present difficulties we face amid the pandemic,” Mr Chen said.
The session concluded a CARE@hkjc campaign that spanned three weekends in which a total of 140 volunteers prepared 11,000 gift packs for distribution to community members most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The campaign was a response to an appeal by the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link, to which the Club pledged a donation of HK$10 million in February. The organisation is dedicated to supporting those most impacted by the pandemic, including medical staff and the elderly.
The Club has been standing with the people of Hong Kong since the start of the pandemic, supporting a wide range of initiatives. The Club has approved over HK$1.7 billion in funding over the past two years to address the pandemic’s impact. Cumulatively over three million people have benefited. With public services stretched, last month the Club pledged to provide additional support to help vulnerable individuals and families gain access to healthcare and elderly services.
