Paws and Play: CARE Team's Heartwarming Efforts at the SPCA Adoption Day and Marketplace
23/03/2024

The CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team (“CARE Team”) collaborates closely with the Hong Kong Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (“SPCA”). Following the opening ceremony of the SPCA Jockey Club Centennial Centre, CARE volunteers once again rallied together to provide support for animal-related services.

On 23 March 2024, eight CARE volunteers actively participated in the first adoption day and marketplace held at the SPCA Jockey Club Centennial Centre. They facilitated registration at the reception, assisted with games and lucky draw booths and promoted the SPCA's mobile application at the information booth. The "Do Pets Eat This?" game booth engaged children in lively play and discussions with their parents, fostering a joyous atmosphere. It aimed to heighten public awareness and engagement with the animals at the adoption centre through such community events, hoping to increase dog adoptions.

Throughout the event, attendees strolled around the pet fair with their furry companions in one hand and delightful animal-shaped balloons in the other. These fantastic balloons were crafted by almost 20 volunteers of the CARE Balloon Twisting Team. The team made a variety of animal-shaped balloons for the event, which were sold to generate funds. Furthermore, on-site workshops were conducted, where CARE balloon twisting team members taught over 150 children and participants how to craft rabbit-shaped balloons, contributing to the festive ambiance.

In addition to balloon twisting, the CARE Team had previously enlisted volunteers to handcraft crochet cat beds. These cozy beds were lovingly provided to the cats in the adoption centre, offering them a sense of comfort akin to being at home. Some of these cat beds were also available for purchase at the market, spreading warmth and comfort to other pets.
