Nature Guardians: A Family-Friendly Trail Clean-up at the Peak
31/01/2025

Hong Kong's hiking trails are breathtaking, but careless littering by hikers can damage the beautiful scenery and harm the ecological environment, leading to sanitation issues. On 31 January 2025, the third day of the Chinese New Year, the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team partnered with Trailsweeper for a large-scale trail cleanup event.

The clean-up covered eight different routes, with the CARE Team responsible for the trail from Pokfield Road Bus Terminal to the Peak, a stretch of over six kilometres. On the event day, 23 CARE volunteers worked diligently to clean up litter while hiking under the guidance of Trailsweeper leaders. They began their journey at Pokfield Road Bus Terminal and traversed Pik Shan Path, Lung Fu Shan, Hatton Road, Lugard Road, and Mount Austin Road, ultimately reaching the Peak, where they collected a total of 16 kilograms of rubbish along the way.

This event encouraged family participation, with children eagerly rolling up their sleeves to help pick up rubbish, demonstrating their enthusiasm and sense of responsibility for environmental protection. Through this initiative, the CARE Team aimed to promote the "Take Your Litter Home" campaign and instil environmental values in the next generation, helping children understand the importance of preserving our natural environment.
