CARE Volunteers continue to support TWGHs "iRun" - HKJC Special Marathon 2020
12/01/2020

CARE volunteers has supported "TWGHs iRun - Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon" for nine years in a row. This year, nearly 60 CARE volunteers participated in this special occasion. They not only encouraged the intellectual disabled buddies to run for good health, but also spread the message of social integration.

On the day, 25 CARE volunteers acted as pair up runners and completed the 3km i-run with their buddies, while the others served as on-site helpers to support the smooth running of the race and ceremony. Throughout the event, our volunteers have demonstrated good partnership and acted in the spirit of social integration. They all appreciated this meaningful activity, as they have gained knowledge and understanding of the intellectual disability community, and shared a lot of positive energy from their ID partner as well.

Organised by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and supported by the Club’s Charities Trust, iRun - HKJC Special Marathon aims at encouraging proactive sports participation among people with intellectual disabilities, and building mutual understanding between the participants and their pair-up runners from the wider community. Participants for iRun has been on the rise, in which a record-breaking turnout of around 4,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities and their pair-up runners competed in the Marathon this year.
