The Club Honoured with the 8th Hong Kong Volunteer Award (Corporate Award) by Agency for Volunteer Service
04/02/2020

The Club was honoured with the 8th Hong Kong Volunteer Award (Corporate Award) by Agency for Volunteer Service, acknowledging its outstanding performance on promoting corporate volunteering and CARE team's ongoing dedication to the community.

Organised by the Agency of Volunteer Service, The Hong Kong Volunteer Award is a citywide volunteer nomination event launched in 2005. Its aim is to recognise the voluntary contributions and accomplishments of business corporations and individuals, and raise public awareness of the value of volunteering.

The judges were impressed with CARE team's continuous efforts in organising a variety of community projects in the past two years. With an emphasis on district-based services, the CARE Volunteer Team took part in nearly 400 community activities and contributed over 16,600 community service hours in 2019 which is a record high. Various service groups have been formed, such as the Hair-cutting Team, the Cantonese Opera Team, Chinese Drum Team as well as the newly developed Balloon Twisting Team. After attending a series of professional training sessions, the trained CARE members make use of their talents and skills to serve the community. In addition, the CARE Volunteer Team develops its service plan in view of the social situation. To address the needs of the community, the team has been expanding its services to support ethnic minorities and animal-related sectors.

Apart from that, the judges have recognised the Club's policy and resources to promote volunteerism by mobilising staff members, their families and friends to participate in volunteer services. To fulfil corporate social responsibility (CSR) by encouraging staff to participate in voluntary work, eligible staff members can apply for up to two days of paid CSR leave. On the other hand, as a token of appreciation to staff members for their keen participation and wholehearted dedication to volunteering work, the Club launched the Volunteers Appreciation Scheme where outstanding volunteers are invited to the Annual Volunteers Appreciation Dinner to receive recognition from the Club's Management.

The Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 23 January. On behalf of the Club, our Head of External Affairs, Eddie Poon took part in the ceremony and represented the Club to receive the Award.
