Jockey Club Drago Cavallo Creative Painting Workshop – Instilling Positivity with Little Artists
26/06/2022

The Jockey Club Drago Cavallo Creative Painting Workshop was held on 26 June 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Led by renowned artist Simon Ma, 50 secondary and primary school students from Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Po Leung Kuk coloured 25 mini Drago Cavallo sculptures together, embellishing the artwork with their creativeness. Our CARE volunteers also took part in the event to provide on-site support for the little artists.

Inspired by the ancient Chinese mythical Dragon Horse, Drago Cavallo is a contemporary expression of Chinese culture and a symbol of inspiration. Simon Ma uses "water" and "horse" as the main creative elements, aiming to convey the spirit of Drago Cavallo and the power of the constantly striving and self-improving Chinese nation.

On the day of the event, students and teachers gathered at Sha Tin Racecourse to bring the mini Drago Cavallo sculptures to life with their creative designs. Our CARE volunteers were also there to provide on-site support, taking care of the little artists’ needs and keeping their creative process running smoothly.

Sharing their positivity and creative energy was Club Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, where he put finishing touches to a two-metre-tall Drago Cavallo. Starting 1 July 2022, the finished Drago Cavallo sculptures would be on a roving exhibition across the city, including Sha Tin Racecourse, Tai Kwun, East Coast Park, Sha Tin Town Hall and Hong Kong Museum of Art, instilling positivity in the community and optimism for the future of Hong Kong as we mark this landmark moment of the city.
