Good Vibes @Hong Kong Dog Rescue
14/10/2022

Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) was founded in 2003 for the specific purpose of saving abandoned dogs and puppies from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department Animal Management Centres. Apart from the rescue and re-homing efforts, education is also an important part of HKDR’s mission, with regular workshops, online seminars and training courses to promote responsible pet ownership and reward-based training methods. The Club has always been concerned about animal welfare. Learning that HKDR needs support, the Club has sponsored the programme “HKJC Woof Woof Walk”, in which the Club’s volunteers would walk the homing dogs sheltered in HKDR to maintain their physical and mental wellness for enhancing their chances of being adopted. The volunteers would also provide assistance on resource relocation in its Homing Centre.

HKDR Tai Po Homing Centre is situated near hillside, with trees and slope surrounded plus winding stairs. To bring the dogs a safer and more comfortable home, 16 volunteers from CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team visited the Tai Po Homing Centre on 14 October 2022 to assist in tree trimming, where a “human chain” has been formed along the stairs to transport the withered branches and trimmed trunks down to the ground for easier clearance; over 100 bricks were carried uphill for maintenance use; near 10 long steel rods were also carried downhill to enhance the site facility for the dogs.

After completing the three physical tasks, the volunteers were divided into groups to enjoy a relaxing walk with the dogs in the bright sunlight yet they did remember to wrap the faeces up well to maintain the hygiene in the neighbourhood. With all these exercises, the interaction between the volunteers and the dogs brought good vibes!
