Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance adds to the festive atmosphere of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations
Supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and organised by the Tai Hang Residents’ Welfare Association, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is one of the important events that has been inscribed on the national list of intangible cultural heritage. Each year, a large number of residents and tourists are drawn to what has become one of the unique traditions of Hong Kong’s Mid-Autumn Festival. This year, the event takes place over four consecutive days in Tai Hang and Victoria Park. Festivalgoers have the chance to get quite close to the 67-metre-long dancing dragon, which is adorned with more than 70,000 incense sticks. Nearly 300 performers give life to the dragon as it dances through the streets, creating an incredibly exciting spectacle. Mark the date!

More Information
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has funded the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance for the past eight years, and also continues to support the Intangible Cultural Heritage Education Programme to raise the public awareness and interest in cultural traditions. These programmes include workshops on the history of the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance and the making of a fire dragon, in the hope that this traditional festival may be passed down through the generations. This year, the Programme also engages some local secondary students, who will take part in the celebrations, performing the Dance in the streets of Tai Hang alongside the masters.
