Exhibition details

As part of the effort to promote the development of arts and culture to enrich the lives of Hong Kong people, The Hong Kong Jockey Club proudly brings you this exhibition, which is the first large-scale exhibition of the two Impressionist masters Paul Cézanne and Pierre-Auguste Renoir in Hong Kong, showcasing 52 masterpieces from the Musée de l’Orangerie and the Musée d’Orsay in France. The two important French Impressionists of the late 19th century to early 20th century marked a pivotal moment in Western art history. Renoir was an influential figure in promoting the development of Impressionism in the late 19th century in his use of light and shadows in depicting subjects. Meanwhile, Cézanne’s theory in drawing set the foundation for the development of art styles in the 20th century, unveiling the curtain of modern art.

We also support a series of educational activities to help visitors to learn more about two Impressionists and history of Impressionism. These include public lectures conducted by art historians and guided tours. In addition, the exhibition gallery features an education corner with multimedia interactive activities. Local artists are invited to create a contemporary art installation and traditional Chinese gongbi paintings respectively, thereby providing a unique Hong Kong viewpoint to the audience with a captivating juxtaposition of art from different eras and cultures.

We are committed to building an inclusive, creative and vibrant Hong Kong, where everyone can enjoy the benefits offered by cultural experiences and an improved quality of life through arts.
