Carnival details
The two major must-see events of the Festival are the Bun Scrambling Competition and the Piu Sik Parade. In the Bun-Scrambling Competition, men and women scale a 14-metre-high bamboo tower covered with 9,000 buns, trying to grab as many as possible.
There is also no shortage of these lucky snacks during the Festival, with one island bakery making 30,000 buns during the three-day extravaganza, each one hand-stamped in red with the Chinese characters for “peace”. Brace yourself for a bun-tastic celebration at one of Hong Kong’s most iconic traditions.
On top of the Bun Scrambling Competition and the Piu Sik Parade, another highlight of the Festival is the Bun Carnival, which brings a variety of interesting activities to the public, including the Climbing Carnival. The Climbing Carnival offers an opportunity for the public to enjoy the fun of bun tower climbing. Activities include stall games, handicraft making, variety show, climbing demonstrations and fun day, as well as display of winning entries in the drawing competitions for students.
