With increasing health awareness, more and more persons with disabilities take part in sports, and many have earned victories and recognition in local and international competitions. When opportunities arise, they can unleash their potential, develop healthy lifestyle, and improve their overall wellbeing.
Since 2012, we have supported the annual Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWHGs) “iRun” — Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon to encourage persons with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports proactively and adopt healthy behaviours. Through pre-race training and race day interactions, the event fosters mutual understanding between runners and the wider community, bringing everyone closer together and embodying the spirit of inclusion. Last year, the event set a record with nearly 4,700 participants and over 700 volunteers, including the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team.
The 2026 race takes place on 11 January along the Central & Western Promenade. To foster greater social inclusion, this year’s event has expanded participation to include wider disability types, such as hearing impairments, visual impairments and persons in mental recovery. Other activities include physical fitness training, thematic talks on health information and public education programmes.
