Ponies on Parade

7 – 15 March 2026
CarnivalPast

Share a joyful moment with the adorable Shetland ponies against the iconic heritage façade of Tai Kwun, getting up close with them to create unforgettable memories.

Event details

Tai Kwun invites you to join the weekend event, Ponies on Parade, for a heart‑warming and surprising urban animal encounter. Gentle and adorable Shetland ponies make a special visit to downtown Central, coming up close to interact with the public and create lasting memories.

The event draws inspiration from archival photographs that show horses’ presence on the Parade Ground in the 1890s, long before Tai Kwun’s transformation into a vibrant centre for arts and culture. In Chinese culture and Hong Kong history, the horse holds a unique status, long symbolising endurance, perseverance and strength in society. Held as part of The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Year of the Horse campaign, the event revives this unique historical link and the profound bond between humans and horses. Against the backdrop of iconic historic architecture, visitors are welcomed into a safe and intimate space to see, touch, and connect with these charming Shetland ponies.

Whether it is a child’s first close encounter with a pony or a shared family moment, each interaction celebrates the warm human–animal connection. Without the need for long journeys, visitors can share the simple wonder of meeting real ponies up close, enjoying a gentle encounter with nature in the heart of Central. Come and enjoy this perfect activity for all ages.

Together with the Club, Tai Kwun aspires to contribute to a culturally vibrant Hong Kong, amplifying the city’s role as a thriving arts and cultural hub in the region and the global arena.
