Centre for Health Protection

Location 147C Argyle Street, Kowloon
Overview The first institution in Hong Kong dedicated to the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

About the facility

In early 2003, the SARS outbreak dealt a devastating blow to Hong Kong. In response, The Hong Kong Jockey Club supported the establishment of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), the city’s first institution dedicated to the prevention and control of infectious diseases. Officially established in 2004, the CHP supports the government in enhancing public health and developing long-term disease-prevention strategies.

The CHP plays a key role in strengthening Hong Kong’s public health system and addressing the increasingly complex health challenges. Its work covers areas such as disease surveillance, infection control, risk communication and the development of emergency response plans, among others, with a proactive focus on preventing both infectious and non-communicable diseases.
