About the facility
Penfold Park is built and managed by The Hong Kong Jockey Club. It has been open to the public on non-racedays since 1979 and serves as a popular "green lung" in the city for residents of Sha Tin and further afield to enjoy its clean and safe environment and high-quality grassed areas. It is one of the city's major habitats of wild egrets with fascinating landscapes and greenery.
Besides being used for equestrian and community events, the Park is also one of the most pet-friendly venues in Hong Kong, providing leisure facilities for both animal-lovers and their pets.
In 2008, when Hong Kong was accorded the honour of staging the equestrian events of the Beijing Olympics, Penfold Park served as the training venue for the world's top equestrian horses. To carry forward the spirit of the Olympics, numerous exhibits are displayed at the Park, including the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch and the Olympic Mega Rings.

Adverse weather arrangement
Penfold Park will remain closed if the Black Rainstorm Warning is in effect before the Park opens. Subject to the latest conditions of the Park, it will be re-opened two hours after the warning signal is lowered.
Penfold Park will be closed when the tropical cyclone warning signal No. 8 or above, or any extreme conditions (collectively referred to as the "Signal"), is announced by the government. Subject to the latest conditions of the Park, it will be re-opened two hours after the signal is lowered.

Penfold Park enhancement work
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“Club”) has been enhancing the Sha Tin Racecourse and its ancillary community facilities on a continuous basis.
The Phase 2 enhancement works of Penfold Park (“the Park”) was gradually completed in early 2026, with some facilities opened to the public in mid-March. The newly opened park facilities include the Entrance Plaza, fountain, park office, newly built park toilets, self-service beverage vending areas and covered seating areas. The park has also introduced various new supporting facilities, such as pathway lighting, CCTV system, gates at Pet Zone, emergency kiosks equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and intercom system. Since Phase 3 will commence immediately thereafter to further enhance facilities and improve the connectivity of the Park with the Sha Tin Racecourse Grandstands, providing visitors with a better overall experience.
During the construction period, the park will remain partially open with no change in opening hours. There will be clear demarcation for closure and open areas, and sufficient wayfinding at the park to ensure the safety of members of the public.
