Overview Hong Kong's third university, established in response to the growing demand for university graduates to fuel an economy increasingly based on services. 

About the facility

Between 1987 and 1992, The Hong Kong Jockey Club supported the establishment of Hong Kong’s third university, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Through teaching and research, the University promotes learning and the advancement of knowledge, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, management and business. It was founded in response to the growing demand for university graduates to support Hong Kong’s economic and social development. To date, HKUST has nurtured over 100,000 students. It is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities by both QS and Times Higher Education and was ranked third in the world’s top young universities among the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings in 2024.
