The Hong Kong Jockey Club equips primary students for the digital future by integrating computational thinking into the formal school curriculum. We continue to drive system change amongst policy makers and educators through continuing professional development.
Preparing young aspirers for the ever-changing digital future
CoolThink@JC is a computational thinking education initiative that aims to inspire digital creativity among students and nurture their proactive use of technology for social good from a young age.
In collaboration with local educators and the world’s leading experts, the project offers holistic support to empower teachers and drive change in schools. We provide high-quality teaching materials, professional development programmes, opportunities for community and teacher network building, in-school co-teaching support, education for parents, learning platform, school infrastructure and hardware support.
The CoolThink@JC approach prepares students for a fast-changing digital future through active and joyful learning experiences. We teach computational problem-solving skills to empower students as they navigate their future. According to the programme’s evaluation report, students who participated in the project demonstrated twice as much improvement in problem-solving skills compared to non-participating students.

Promoting equitable access and inclusiveness
In May 2023, CoolThink@JC was formally adopted by the Education Bureau, reaching 100% of publicly-funded schools in Hong Kong. Currently, a total of 204 CoolThink@JC network schools are delivering over 14 hours of CoolThink learning as part of their formal information and communications technology (ICT) lessons.
Since 2016, the project has served over 100,000 students, trained over 1,500 teachers and educated over 30,000 parents – providing equitable access to computational thinking education for all students to ensure inclusiveness and to bridge the digital divide.
To date, CoolThink@JC has received numerous international awards and recognition such as QS Reimagine Education Awards, the ISTE Seal of Alignment, the Education Alliance Finland Certification and the hundrED.org Global Collection.
