We connect carers and elderly in need of care to timely and appropriate support services.
Providing holistic support to carers throughout their caregiving journey
As Hong Kong’s population ages, carers play an important role in supporting elders “ageing in place”, allowing them to live safely in their own home and community as they age. However, carers often encounter various challenges throughout their caregiving journey. It is essential to recognise the needs of carers to enhance their skills and well-being, ultimately benefitting both carers and the elderly they support.
To address this, we partner with six non-governmental organisations and Sau Po Centre on Ageing of The University of Hong Kong and initiate the “Jockey Club Carer Space Project”, establishing ten designated Carer Spaces and ten service points across eight districts to provide holistic support to carers.
This project pilots an innovative carer-centric and data-driven service model. Core service components include caregiving planning, professional counselling, skills training, mutual support group, all aimed at fostering a collaborative environment among carers. It also offers flexible respite service, ensuring carers have access to essential support systems.
The five-year project is anticipated to benefit more than 40,000 carers and elderly, develop an evidence-informed service model to benchmark service’s quality, as well as raise public awareness and foster a carer-friendly community.
