We strengthen social connections and community support for elderly singletons and doubletons.

Strengthening social connections for older adults

In light of the rising number of elderly singletons and doubletons in Hong Kong, many of whom face social isolation and limited support networks, the Jockey Club “Reach to Bridge” Community Elderly Support Project aims to improve community support and foster social connections for hard-to-reach older adults. The project also provides home improvements to enhance home safety, empowering older adults to age comfortably at home.

Launched in 2023 and now expanded to all 18 districts, 20 project partners have been engaged to assess older adults’ needs and to provide timely assistance and appropriate service referrals. The University of Hong Kong will gather data to evaluate the demographic and service needs of hard-to-reach older adults. Over 30,000 socially isolated older adults are expected to benefit, with home improvement services reaching more than 15,000 elderly households.
