C-for-Chinese@JC

Hong Kong has been home to a growing number of culturally diverse families for generations. The average annual growth rate of South Asians is 4.1%, the highest among all culturally diverse groups. To help them thrive despite differences in language and culture, we provide them with the support they need to integrate into society as seamlessly as possible. 

Initiated by the Trust, C-for-Chinese@JC was co-founded by three local universities and two non-governmental organisations. Through this project, we are enhancing Chinese proficiency among non-Chinese speaking kindergarten students, so they can experience a smoother transition to primary education and integration into the community. By collaborating with the home-school-community sectors, we aim to foster a culturally-responsive environment where both teaching and learning are meaningful, joyful and effective.  

The project has also empowered over 150 non-ethnic Chinese youth to become multicultural teaching assistants (MTAs). As MTAs, they serve as teaching assistants, mentors to ethnic minority kindergarten students and connectors with their parents.
