Jockey Club Emergency Relief Fund

Emergency reliefUnderprivileged

We provide timely, tangible support to people affected by disasters and emergencies, helping individuals and families get through their toughest moments with hope.

Rapid help when it matters most

When an unexpected crisis strikes, immediate support can make all the difference. Building on our experience supporting victims of the Ma Tau Wai Road building collapse in 2010, we set up Jockey Club Emergency Relief Fund (JCERF) to provide swift assistance to individuals and families affected by natural disasters, accidents, epidemics and other emergencies. Over the years, we have stood alongside victims and their families in difficult cases including the Lamma Island ferry collision and the New Lucky House Fire on Jordan Road.

Most recently, in response to the adversity caused by the fatal blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, we swiftly approved a donation of HK$100 million within hours to effectively address the urgent needs of the victims and their families.

JCERF was set up after Ma Tau Wai Road building collapse in 2010.

How we help

We provide transitional assistance including living expenses, education costs and funeral costs—to individuals and families facing:

  • Sudden crises like the incapacity of a family breadwinner or the unexpected death of a family member
  • Impact from natural disasters or large-scale emergencies

Because JCERF is designed for urgent situations, it does not cover cases that are not time-sensitive or requests for long-term assistance.

Getting help

To receive assistance, applicants must be Hong Kong residents assessed and referred by registered social workers from the Government, non-governmental organisations or the Hospital Authority.

Social workers can contact the JCERF Secretariat for an initial assessment or submit applications directly. Once approved, we deliver the donation cheques through the referring organisation to ensure support reaches families quickly.

For enquiries, registered social workers may contact JCERF Secretariat at 2654 3033 or jcerf@hkjc.org.hk.
