Established for 20 years, the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team (CARE Team) has not only been deeply engaged in community services but has also tirelessly promoted diverse and creative volunteer activities to respond to the needs of the society and different service recipients. In 2024/25, the CARE Team accumulated close to 25,000 service hours, taking part in nearly 650 service projects. The services spanned sections including sports, low-income families, the elderly, ethnic minorities, animal welfare, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and children with special educational needs (SEN). Moreover, 555 new members joined this year, bringing the total number of CARE members to a breakthrough number of 2,000 — a new milestone!
To recognise the volunteers’ enthusiasm and dedication, the “Volunteers Appreciation Scheme” was launched. This year’s Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held on 23 October 2025 at the Happy Valley Racecourse. The Volunteer Appreciation Dinner gathered nearly 200 volunteers to participate, with Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Club’s Chief Executive Officer, and the management team in attendance to enjoy the gaiety. CEO expressed gratitude to the volunteers, commended the dedication demonstrated during the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Month “May · We Care”, and highly praised their professional support services at various major sporting events. This year, the CARE Team further expanded its core services to support sporting events and established “Team CAREthletes” to bring volunteers who are passionate about sports together to participate in sports-related services and various mega events.
Marking the first time for Hong Kong to be the cohost of the National Games, Ms Vivian Kong, Gold Medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, received the Club Volunteer Team Flag from CEO, along with four volunteer representatives from the CARE Team holding flags representing the competition events named in honour of the Club. They took the oath and pledged to carry out their duties wholeheartedly. After the oath, the venue resounded with applause and a highly charged atmosphere.
During the appreciation ceremony, outstanding CARE volunteers received awards of commendation from management. To further encourage the volunteering culture within the Club, the three departments with the highest service hours were also recognised: Retail & Telebet Services, Charities, and Membership Operations Departments.
In addition, new special awards were introduced to recognise volunteers who have been serving with great passion in the various performance teams. Since 2014, the CARE Team has been progressively establishing different performance teams, with the aim of diversifying volunteer services and enabling volunteers to turn their interests into social contributions.
