Jockey Club helps fund new headquarters for Red Cross
02/03/2016

Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) has been a long-standing partner of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, working together to serve the needy for 65 years. To enable the organisation to expand its services, the Club’s Charities Trust has donated HK$80 million to support the partial cost of the HKRC's new headquarters building in Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon, which will be developed into a one-stop humanitarian platform providing timely assistance for more people in need.

The eleven-storey building provides a wide range of service units under one roof including a blood donor centre, a first aid and healthcare training centre, a volunteer development and activities centre, a humanitarian education centre, the overseas and local disaster relief materials handling centre, the Red Cross Youth West Kowloon Divisional Headquarters and the Jockey Club Convention Hall.

The services offered by the new headquarters are expected to benefit more than 440,000 residents every year, including the sick, disaster victims, the disabled and the financially deprived.  The building will also provide upgraded facilities for HKRC staff, helping them provide timely services in disaster situations, and will strengthen community involvement by enabling more youth and volunteer programmes to be organised.

Since 1951, the Club has donated over HK$215 million to support HKRC on a variety of projects.  Examples include the construction of a new footbridge at the HKRC John F Kennedy Centre; reprovision of the HKRC Princess Alexandra School boarding section; and the Uniformed Group Leaders and Trainers Development Project under a Community Project Grant from the Trust.
