Riding High Together Festival provides edutainment fun over Easter holiday
09/05/2017

The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s third annual flagship community event – the Riding High Together Festival – came to a successful close on 16 April. The three-day festival attracted a total of about 47,000 members of the public, who came to Sha Tin Racecourse and Penfold Park to celebrate their Easter holidays.

This year's theme was "Let’s Kindle Our Creativity", and more than 70 “edutainment” activities were featured in ten zones arranged around five themes: Horse Encounters; Inspiration & Fun; Let’s be Active; Snap & Share; and Live Performances. The many exciting activities and games encouraged visitors of all ages to explore their imaginations and expand their creative horizons. One of the most eye-catching activities was held on the opening day, when nearly a thousand participants created clay sculptures of Easter bunnies together. In doing so, they broke the world record for “The Largest Sculpting Lesson” and promoted the positive “Can Do” spirit.

Also on the first day of the Festival, the Club announced its HK$117 million donation to expand the Community Project Grant. This will support 65 partner agencies to provide diversified services for disadvantaged groups, including the addition of four more agencies to help nurture arts talent and social innovation, encouraging more public participation. In total, about 1.1 million people are expected to benefit from the Grant.

To express its gratitude to the elderly for their tremendous contribution to Hong Kong’s development, the Club continued a tradition begun in 2015 as part of its 130th Anniversary celebrations and held 18 “Riding High Together Lunches for the Elderly”. More than 600 elderly people from Wan Chai, Sha Tin and Central & Western districts were invited to attend the first three lunches held at Sha Tin Racecourse during the Festival, where they also enjoyed a visit to the racecourse facilities.
