Jockey Club-funded "The Rainbow Troops" drama performed by The Nonsensemakers
23/06/2017

Theatrical performances that bring together both able-bodied and disabled people are a valuable means of promoting social inclusion, as they help the disabled build self-confidence and interest in the performing arts, while enhancing public understanding of different people’s talents. With this in mind, the Club’s Charities Trust has granted more than HK$14 million to The Nonsensemakers to organise the Jockey Club Hand-in-Hand Capable Theatre Includrama Project from 2016 to 2019.

The project involves two theatre workshop series each year, in addition to three major large-scale theatre productions and a 20-minute documentary film, as well as school and public talks. Total audiences of around 83,000 will benefit.

The latest production under the project is "The Rainbow Troops", a drama based on an Indonesian novel of the same name published in 2005, which sold more than five million copies. The drama carries the theme of "discrimination stems from misunderstanding, acceptance starts with communication”, offering audiences an opportunity to reflect on the values of life and learn about disability inclusion.

Arts, Culture and Heritage is a focus area for the Club’s Charities Trust donations.  The aim is to help build a culturally vibrant Hong Kong, enriching lives and promoting social inclusion.
