Blue House Cluster Project receives UNESCO Award of Excellence
27/04/2018

The historic Blue House Cluster in Wan Chai district consists of three interconnected buildings: the Blue House, Yellow House, and Orange House. In 2015, the Club launched a three-year Jockey Club "Blue House Studio" Cultural Heritage Education Programme to raise public awareness of heritage conservation through the unique history of these buildings and the surrounding neighbourhood.

The Trust's funding also covered detailed documentation to record the process of the conservation project and the hard work of its participants, as well as the production of a documentary video for submission to UNESCO.

These community efforts paid off as it was recently announced that the Blue House Cluster heritage conservation project, implemented under a "Retain House and Tenant" concept, had received an Award of Excellence in the 2017 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. This is the first time a built heritage conservation project in Hong Kong has gained such a prestigious honour.
