CARE volunteers supported "TWGHs iRun - Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2018" for the seventh year in a row. This year, over 100 CARE volunteers participated in this special occasion, for helping and encouraging the participants to run for good health and spread the message of social integration for people with disabilities.
It was a sunny morning on 14 January 2018. 20 CARE volunteers paired up with people with intellectual disabilities (ID) from Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Ho Yuk Ching Workshop cum Hostel to complete a 3km race. Both the ID runners and their pair-up volunteers demonstrated a good partnership and the spirit of social integration. Besides, more than 80 CARE volunteers helped out at the event as on-site supporters at different locations, such as maintaining order at the command posts, distributing souvenirs at finishing point and assisting the logistics at the ceremony stage, making sure a smooth running of the whole event.
Organised by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals with the support of the Club’s Charities Trust, iRun - HKJC Special Marathon aims to promote healthy lifestyle and active sports participation of the ID people as well as social inclusion in the community.
