Easter Egg Hunt Fun Day: Hunting for Heritage Fun
02/04/2023

With Easter approaching, the Easter Egg Hunt Fun Day (Fun Day) was held on 2 April 2023 at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre (HKHDC) by the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO). Once being used as barracks, the HKHDC has a rich history and was redeveloped by AMO for heritage education and publicity purpose.

On the preparation day (1 April), 10 CARE@hkjc members were taught how to make badges to be inserted into 1,000 Easter eggs for the egg-hunting event on the next day. The staff of HKHDC also toured our CARE members around the Centre to let them learn about the history, architectural characteristics and restoration of the beautiful building.

With the aim of raising the public’s interest in and awareness of the heritage in Hong Kong through edutainment, the Fun Day consisted of a series of activities, namely “Easter Egg Hunt”, “Colour Your Easter Egg”, “Colourful Historic Building Badge Making” workshop, “Hidden Melodies of the Easter Eggs – Outdoor Music Concert” and “Easter Bunny Balloon”, for which 20 CARE volunteers were invited to provide support. During the main event “Easter Egg Hunt”, the CARE members first distributed a quiz sheet to the participants, with questions related to archaeological finds and historic buildings. Clues for the answers could be found in the exhibitions at HKHDC and those with correct answers could receive an Easter Egg that contained a gift from the CARE members. The volunteers also provided on-site assistance to other activities in controlling the flow of people and queuing order. Another noteworthy activity was the “Easter Bunny Balloon”, where the skilled Balloon Team members from CARE@hkjc created “bunny balloons” for the participants to add a festive vibe.
