CARE Volunteers Make Debut in Hiking Trails Clean-Up Service to Protect Our Beautiful Landscapes
20/05/2023

With the aim of promoting environmental protection and caring for the countryside, CARE volunteers made their debut by launching a Hiking Trail clean-up service, in collaboration with district partner Trailsweeper*on 20 May 2023.

On the event day, led by hiking leaders from Trailsweeper, some 40 CARE members, along with their family members and friends, were divided into two teams to clean up two hiking trails at Tai Mo Shan Country Park in Tsuen Wan. Under the guidance of experienced hiking leaders from Trailsweeper, CARE volunteers learned the skills of cleaning up the trails while promoting the message of environmental protection in action. In the end, 30 kilograms of rubbish were cleared along two routes, where plastic bottles, plastic bags and aluminum cans comprised a significant proportion. Even though the weather was very hot, the volunteers believed that the service was meaningful and worthwhile. Some volunteers were surprised to see so much waste along the short-distance trails!

*Trailsweeper is formed by a group of passionate volunteers with a mission to protect the environment through sweeping rubbish from hiking trails and country parks. In 2021, they received “the Hong Kong Volunteer Award” organised by the Agency for Volunteer Service.
