Trained CARE@hkjc Volunteers set to be Tai Kwun Docents
08/07/2023

Opened in May 2018, Tai Kwun is the fruition of a joint partnership between The Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Government of the HKSAR to conserve and revitalise the buildings of the historic Central Police Station compound, which represents one of the most significant revitalisation projects in Hong Kong.

Some 20 CARE@hkjc volunteers joined the “Tai Kwun Docent Programme” co-organised by the Club and Tai Kwun. The volunteers had completed a training on 24 March 2023 to learn about the heritage-arts compound and docent presentation skills. Upon passing the assessment, they have taken up the role of docent in leading participants to visit the heritage storytelling spaces at Tai Kwun and introducing the historical significance of this unique heritage site with more than 170 years of history.

The trained CARE volunteers led a total of six guided tours on 13 May, 17 June and 8 July in groups as docents, who will also continue to provide voluntary docent service, guiding people in the community to visit Tai Kwun and sharing the related historical stories and revitalisation efforts.
