Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and The Trustees of the British Museum, the “Eternal Life – Exploring Ancient Egypt” Exhibition is one of the featured exhibitions of 2017/18 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series, and solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. With Egyptian funerary traditions and the pursuit of eternal life as its theme, the exhibition uses the latest technologies, such as 3D projection mapping, virtual reality and holograms, to take visitors back in time to experience life in ancient Egypt. “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Eternal Life – Exploring Ancient Egypt” Exhibition introduces six Egyptian mummies between 3,000 and 1,800 years old, as well as around 200 invaluable objects. Digital interpretation of the mummies demonstrates how non-invasive CT scanning technology allows archaeologists and other specialists to determine the age and gender of the mummified bodies and to learn more about the diet, state of health, mummification processes and religious practices of the ancient Egyptians. Through learning about different mummification methods and styles, we can learn more about the historical progress of the ancient Egypt.
In line with the exhibition, the Hong Kong Science Museum has organised a series of special programmes to share with the visitors the latest developments in ancient Egyptian research. Through these thematic activities and multimedia programmes, the Museum hopes to enhance public interest and awareness of ancient Egyptian culture.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated funds for the sixth consecutive year to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for the staging of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series Exhibitions. These exhibitions allow the public to have greater opportunities to delve into and enjoy history, arts and culture. If this is something you love, don't miss this exhibition on ancient Egyptian civilisation!
