Jockey Club supports renovation of Hong Kong Arts Centre
29/09/2018

For the past 40 years, the Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) has been dedicated to building the local arts ecosystem, with the aim of making the arts accessible to a wider public audience, as well as facilitating cultural exchange both locally and internationally.

The Club supported the original construction cost of HKAC in 1977 and has since made a number of contributions to its renovation and maintenance. In 2014, the Trust granted HKAC a further HK$68 million to renovate and upgrade the facilities of its main building. With this renovation now complete, an official reopening ceremony was held on 29 September.

The renovation work enables HKAC’s main building facilities to comply with the latest regulations on architectural, mechanical and engineering safety standards. It also improves energy efficiency, enhances operational performance and equips the building with barrier-free facilities. Meanwhile programme promotion will be improved through the installation of digital signage on external wall and indoor areas.

Besides contributing to HKAC’s capital works for four decades, the Club has funded several of HKAC’s programmes aimed at developing local talent, including the Jockey Club Street Music Series and Jockey Club ifva Everywhere. Its total donations have now reached HK$172 million. To acknowledge this continued support, HKAC recognises the Trust as its “Partner in Arts”.
